Macro Economic Survey 2016: Sensex gains 178 pts, Nifty at 7030 ahead of Budget

The market has ended higher in the last trading session ahead of Union Budget. The Sensex ended up 178.30 points or 0.8 percent at 23154.30, and the Nifty gained 59.15 points or 0.8 percent at 7029.75.

About 1039 shares have advanced, 1435 shares declined, and 176 shares are unchanged.

Coal India, SBI, Hindalco, NTPC and L&T were top gainers in the Sensex. Among the losers were Bajaj Auto, Hero, Lupin, Bharti and Wipro.

Indian ADRs: Tata Motors, Dr Reddy’s Lab, HDFC Bank slip

In the banking space, ICICI Bank shed 0.28 percent at USD 5.18.

HDFC Bank declined 0.56 percent at USD 51.78.

In the IT space, Infosys was up 0.03 percent at USD 16.87.

Wipro was up 0.05 percent at USD 11.34.

In the other sectors, Tata Motors slipped 0.78 percent at USD 22.29.

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories fell 0.18 percent at USD 43.59.



Nifty ends Feb series below 7000, Sensex weak on Rail Budget day

Dragged by a disapointing Rail Budget and February Future & Option series expiry, market sentiment remained low. The Nifty ended down 48.10 points or 0.7 percent at 6970.60 and  the Sensex was down 112.93 points or 0.5 percent at 22976.00.

About 888 shares advanced, 1561 shares declined, and 169 shares were unchanged.

ONGC, Sun Pharma, HDFC, Coal India and Hindalco were top gainers while SBI, GAIL, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank and L&T were losers.
