Sensex, Nifty end flat; Dr Reddy’s Labs, NTPC gainers

The market ended flat. The Sensex was up 6.44 points at 24492.39, and the Nifty was up 1.60 points at 7437.75.

About 1363 shares have advanced, 1196 shares declined, and 189 shares are unchanged.

NTPC, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Tata Motors and Tata Steel were top gainers while BHEL, HUL, Hero MotoCorp, Adani Ports and Hindalco were losers in the Sensex.

Sensex up 473 pts, Nifty ends above 7400 on global rally

The market snapped two-day losses on Friday. The Sensex rallied 473.45 points or 1.98 percent to 24435.66 and the Nifty surged 145.65 points or 2 percent to 7422.45, tracking global rally and oil rebound. The BSE Midcap index gained 1.9 percent and Smallcap surged 2.25 percent.

More than three shares advanced for every share declining on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

GAIL, Hindalco Industries, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Steel, Hero Motocorp and M&M were top gainers, rising 5-8 percent while Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular lost 3.36 percent and 6.23 percent, respectively.

Petrol, Diesel Get Costlier in Delhi on Tax Hike

petrol-oil-prices-625-300_625x300_51451565700Petrol price in Delhi was on Tuesday hiked by 96 paise per litre and diesel by 53 paise per litre after the state government raised value-added tax (VAT) on the two fuels.
The Delhi government on Monday night raised VAT, or local sales tax, on petrol to 27 per cent from 25 per cent, resulting in the 96 paise per litre hike in retail pump rates.
Similarly, the VAT on diesel was increased from 16.6 per cent to 18 per cent. A pollution cess of Rs 0.25 per litre is also levied on diesel.
Petrol now costs Rs 59.99 per litre as against Rs 59.03 a litre previously. A litre of diesel now costs Rs 44.71 as opposed to Rs 44.18 previously.
